 Dahria’s Story
Dahria is a Canadian cross-country skier from Whitehorse, Yukon. In 2012 Dahria moved to Canmore, Alberta to pursue her dream of becoming an Olympian and a world-class ski racer. Training under the guidance of the Alberta World Cup Academy and National Ski Team, Dahria achieved one of her goals this past winter when she competed at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Dahria started skiing at age 3 in the jackrabbits program in Whitehorse shuffling around the Mt. McIntyre trails without poles. As a kid Dahria did many sports, by the time she was ten she had paired her sports down to soccer, orienteering, running, skiing and figure skating, just in time for me to start playing volleyball and basketball at school. Dahria has competed at National Championships in four different sports, skiing, orienteering, soccer and basketball, and has been a multiple time national champion in two, skiing and orienteering, however her true love was always in skiing.
Dahria went to my first ski competition outside the Yukon when she was 9 years old and has been traveling and competing ever since. Her first national championships were in Duntroon, Ontario in 2009, where she claimed her first ever national title, since then, Dahria has medalled at the Canadian Ski Nationals 21 times. She has also represented Canada at the World Junior Championships, U23 World Championships, Senior World Championship and the Olympics Games, as well as at multiple World Cup races. Her career highlights include placing 15th in a World Cup at home in Canmore, as well as placing 13th in the 2018 Olympic Team Sprint with her fellow Yukon teammate Emily Nishikawa.
Dahria loves skiing because it gives her endless opportunities to spend time outside exploring and travelling to new places. It is no surprise that during her off time she does more of the same. She enjoys hiking and having a good time outside with her friends and family in the Yukon and around the world. When not outside, Dahria’s passions include spending time in the kitchen baking, painting landscapes and being around animals. She is also a part time student with Athabasca University and she is working towards a commerce degree.
